At the site for the United States Bankruptcy Court for the District of Massachusetts, here, you will find the local rules (among other things) and a helpful list of points for those who want to file without an attorney, in “pro se.” The FAQ section has a good overview of bankruptcy law and procedure.

The U.S.Courts website provides a bigger picture of the federal court system. Don’t miss the section on bankruptcy law and procedure, here.

The Center for Responsible Lending sponsors a good site for learning about and monitoring predatory lending and the overall predatory attitudes of credit card issuers and other lenders.

If you must seek counseling for debt management outside of bankruptcy, I urge you to start with the National Foundation for Credit Counseling

Bankrate.com is a site devoted, in its own words, to publishing “original and objective personal finance stories to help consumers make informed financial decisions … on just about every major financial decision facing our readers: from purchasing their first home, to selecting a new car, to saving for retirement.”

If you might enjoy following investigations into the sinister mortgage fraud industry, I recommend subscribing to The Mortgage Fraud Blog.

My Massachusetts colleague, William McLeod, sponsors a very engaging and informative web log.
